Course Description

This course focuses on theory and methods used in optical spectroscopy, relating basic quantum mechanical models to general techniques in atomic and molecular spectroscopy. Topics covered include general features of spectroscopy, group theory, atomic spectroscopy, rotational spectroscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, electronic spectroscopy of diatomic and polyatomic molecules and photoelectron spectroscopy.

Note: Lecture slots and exam times will be scheduled in the first week of classes with the consent of all students in 59-446 and 59-546. I will try my best to work around all scheduling issues for all students. This first class meeting is on Thurs. Sep. 7 at 4 pm.

Update: Classes will take place Tues. and Thurs. from 11:30-12:45 in 1115 Erie Hall
